Eric Gomez Ms. Lehmann 1-1A English 20th March 2019 As You Like It: Response I personally enjoyed the play as you like it to an extent. The author is William Shakespeare and the company isShakespearience. The reason I liked it to an extent is not because of the play itself or the actors; it was the costumes and props/set. Yes, the costumes were...nice and all, but I just feel like they could have put more effort into allof the costumes, just as they did Phoebe’s. I understand the part where they are a duke or in kingdoms. If it’s supposed to be a modern play, It could have been even more 80’s. If you are going 80’s and silly at some point, then go all out! My reasoning is it would give more expression to the characters and be more entertaining to the audience! I feel like there could have been more props to the story. The duke could have been holding a scroll or notes to show he has important information that he wants to share. Another example is when they were having lunch. There could have been plates or other utensils used for when you feast.I think that would help because it would give the audience a better way to picture in their mind what’s going on, or at least let them know what they are doing for the people who are just flat out confused. My other problem with the play was the set. I believe the set could have been more decorative and explanatory with the scenes. I had a lot of trouble figuring out where they were when they switched scenes. Back drops, or even someone holding bushes and or trees behind them, would make sense! It would help others know their placement. In conclusion, my response and reaction to the play is that I would love more props, backgrounds, and better costumes! Everything else with the actors and play was amazing. The music expressed the mood and feeling of the moment. The actors played their parts with passion, and you could see it! It was cool of them to put it in an 80’s theme but it could have been better!
